ThOUGhTS | An Outfit Repeat and an Overhaul on my Point of View

Last weekend, I kinda experienced a crisis tagging along my younger sister, Hershey, who is a budding pro photographer. Her itinerary was to snap official pictures of stores in this posh mall located in the business district with her group of shutterbugs. When she announced that she will be with her "blogger" sister, aka --- me, the lot informed her that they would like take photos which made me feel embarrassed, awkward and unworthy.

I also felt sheer panic. Less on the fact that they'll take photos of me. I was more concerned about what they will say given "lifestyle blogger" is defined by social media to look utterly gorgeous and skinny, which I both wasn't.

I rummaged through my very small closet and found this polka dot dress to my disappointment because I have worn and blogged dress this before. I was desperate to make a good impression that I convinced Hershey to drop by the mall to buy this coverup prior travelling to her appointment. Even with a new piece, I was still mortified. It didn't boost my self confidence at all. Disclaimers bombarded my head --- I don't look like the typical blogger, I repeat my clothes, I don't have sponsors, I don't have much followers, I am not skinny, I don't wear make-up... etc. etc. This obviously didn't work out well in my psyche. But ironically, it is this dress that reminded me the significance of how you look at yourself and how that knowledge affects your spirit.

I wore this dress on my very first blog post just a year ago. As I ride the train beside my sister, it dawned to me the reasons why I created Sugary Fancies in the first place despite the negatives -- it is because I want to emphasize on individuality and how I am inspired by others to find the best versions of me - of me wanting to pay it forward. Not believing in myself defeats that purpose! I cannot allow my competition (myself) to pull me down with insecurities.

"The more you believe in yourself, the more you could trust yourself. The more you trust yourself, the less you compare yourself to others."

This vulnerability I share with you all simply because, it's okay and that you may also fight the cynicism that whispers in your ear --- you are not good enough, you are not pretty enough, not smart enough. Truth is? You are perfect the way God made you. That means you are amazing!

    1. Hi, Mercy! You exude such confidence and poise that it's very unlikely for you to have self-esteem issues. I love your page, too! I am humbled by your visit. xoxo

  4. Well said! Self-doubt is destructive :( Unfortunately, accepting your inner beauty can also be difficult. One needs to have a strong support system for them to believe in what they can do. Very nice blog! Keep it up.
